GSA Members and Executive Meet with Minister Selby and Other Dignitaries

On Thursday, March 29th, the GSA organized by the Campaigns Committee, hosted a Dignitary Breakfast in the GSA Lounge with Manitoba Minister of Advanced Education and Literacy Hon. Erin Selby, University of Manitoba VP Research & International Dr. Digvir Jayas, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies Dr. Jay Doering, Dr. David Collins Vice-Provost (Academic Planning and Programs), and Mr. Darcy Collins Director of the Corporate Services Branch for the Manitoba government.

In this meeting, graduate students were able to discuss important measures affecting innovation, research, and graduate-level education as a whole.  Students were able to ask questions in an environment of collaborative dialogue and cooperation with key stakeholders in the post-secondary sector.  In particular we discussed public-private partnerships, graduate level research training, our reasons for selecting the University of Manitoba as our graduate institution of choice, and meeting the basic needs of students on and off campus.  We also took the opportunity to thank those who assisted in offering health care services to international students, and we were thanked for our continued open and supportive relationship building by our current Minister of Advanced Education.

We look forward to continuing these relationships with the University of Manitoba and the Provincial Government, and working together to improve the lives and education of graduate students in Manitoba.
